Twitter has become a remarkable tool for building your community. Whether this means promoting your products and service, or mobilizing your followers to action, this has made it an ideal solution that cannot be ignored from freelancers to non-profits to enterprises.

Having a website is not enough anymore. You must have a blog, news, and even events to keep your visitors coming back for more. So how do you keep up with adding a Twitter to the mix? Well, hitting two birds with one stone of course (one of which being a Twitter bird)! I am going to show how you can merge your existing processes of posting blogs, news, and events with automatically posting to Twitter!

In this article, I will be showing you how the new Sitefinity Connector integrates your website to Twitter via the API and OAuth protocol. For this demonstration, I am going to use News Module, but this also works for the Events and Blog Modules.

Features:

  • Post news, events, and blogs from Sitefinity to Twitter simply by checking off a box!
  • Uses the latest, next generation Twitter API
  • Uses the highly secured OAuth for authenication
  • Post to multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously
  • Add prefix or hash tags to your posts
  • URL is automatically shorten via Bit.ly service

News, events, and blogs will have a new Social Media section where you can select as many Twitter accounts you would like to post to

Using OAuth standards, the sign on procedure will take you directly to Twitter for authentication. The Sitefinity Connector will request your permission to perform the tasks needed to post.

A successful login and granting of permissions will pass back a secure Twitter token to allow Sitefinity to update your Twitter status.

Upon creation of your post, the Twitter posted to will be listed for your reference. A shorten URL via Bitly is automatically done as well.

A successul post from Sitefinity to Twitter... a beautiful sight indeed!

Do not forget, it is also posted onto your website with the same click :)

Conclusion:

Whether you choose to utilize only one small aspect of the Web's fastest growing community, or embrace it with open arms, the Twitter API is a powerful tool both to enhance the experience for existing users, and to attract new users by driving traffic to your site.
